Front Page News!3/4/2020 Thank you to the Perham Focus for featuring my story on the front page of the newspaper. It was so humbling to interviewed for my role that I play as an advocate for animals. I am passionate about my foundation, The Bark "Hound'ation and was excited to share my personal story about the healing power a rescue animal can make in your life. The article also highlighted one of my many service projects that I have been involved with as an advocate, leading a group of area youth up-cycling used t-shirts into dog rope toys to be donated to area Humane Society locations.

Writing to my Legislators3/4/2020 I was able to reach out to encourage support for the humane pet store bill, authored by Senator Bigham. This bill will prevent the pet store sale of dogs and cats from puppy and kitten mills. Unfortunately most dogs and cats sold in pet stores come from puppy mills, as responsible breeders do not sell to pet stores- they sell directly to the customer. The bill requires pet stores to follow the humane model, where they do not sell commercially bred dogs and cats, but they are allowed to host adoption events with animal shelters and rescues. The vast majority of pet stores in Minnesota already follow this model, and this bill will not impact responsible breeders. I urge you as well as our legislators to support this legislation.

For the Love of Animals2/13/2020 I am so excited to have organized the "For the Love of Animals" pet food and supply drive. It brings me so much joy to lead youth in community service projects. I partnered with Great Beginnings Childcare and had the daycare kiddos help me decorate a Valentines Box for the Pet Food/Supply Drive. When the children bring their treats to share with their friends for Valentines Day they are encouraged to bring a cat or dog treat or small cat or dog toy to donate to a furry friend in need. The donations will be brought to our local Humane Society at the conclusion of the Food/Supply Drive. The public is also encouraged to make a donation and contributions can be dropped off at Great Beginnings Childcare in Perham. If you're not from the area please consider making a donation to a shelter in your area. Happy Giving Hearts Day!
Career Goals1/31/2020 I am beyond excited to continue the momentum I have started as an advocate for animals by pursuing a BS in Pre-Veterinary/Business at Minnesota State University Moorhead followed by obtaining a DVM to become a Veterinarian focusing on animal assisted therapy. Proximity to home played a big role in my decision to attend MSUM, as I wanted to be near enough to home to be able to visit my pets on a regular basis. It was also important to me to be near enough to continue running my Foundation and pet pantry while attending college. I am excited at the potential and flexibility that obtaining my BS in Business prior to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree gives me, because in addition to practicing Veterinary Care, I have a dream of running my own pet-focused business to provide pet care services including grooming, pet training, service animal training, animal assisted therapy and pet retail space where I can also build on my organic pet treat business. This will enable me to position myself as an active volunteer for pet rescues, shelters and sanctuaries and ultimately do what I love, helping animals and people.
Rocket the Therapy Dog1/29/2020 Animal Assisted Therapy is growing leaps and bounds as the loving and healing power of animals is sometimes the best medicine. I'm proud that Tuffy's, a company in my hometown believes in that healing power too. Tuffy's, which is a KLN Brand recently donate $250,000 from their Nutrisource Pet Food brand to M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital as they welcome a new 4-legged staff member, Rocket Tuffy. Rocket has undergone years of advance training that allows him to be present during medical procedures, which is something regular therapy dogs going to hospitals cannot. Rocket has been at the children’s hospital for more than a month now; spending his first two weeks getting oriented with the hospital. Now he sees about four to five patients a day, helping to relieve pre-operation anxiety, going into some procedures and helping a hesitant child to take a post-op walk. Rocket comes into work every morning, getting plenty of play time and breaks throughout the day as he makes his rounds, said Anna Dressel, Child Life Coordinator-- Facility Dog Program and Rocket’s handler. Rocket’s favorite thing that he lives for though is that one-on-one time with the patents, getting up into their beds. Rocket is the first and only full-time canine facility to join the staff at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. R
